Features one channel and two inputs; volume, bright, treble, treble expander, bass, bass expander, bright switch, deep switch, stand-by switch, pilot light for stand-by and operate. This amp was built to play larger halls and outdoor concerts. The lack of reverb was not a big issue as most live performances had acoustics full of reverberation halls, arenas. Peter Traynor built these things to stand up to road abuse, unlike a lot of vintage stuff. It sounds great with either bass and guitar, providing a clean and loud tone. Works great in large club settings. Front panel has two input jacks, controls for treble boost, volume, treble expander, treble, bass expander, bass, presence, and bass boost. There is also a standby switch and corresponding green and red pilot lights. There are no effects in this head, but stomp boxes work just fine.
Design developments[ edit ] The Fender Stratocaster was the first guitar to feature three pickups and a spring tension vibrato system, as well as being the first Fender with a contoured body. The Stratocaster’s double cutaways allowed players easier access to higher positions on the neck. In , Fender began using alder for sunburst and most custom color Stratocaster bodies; ash was still used on translucent blonde instruments. A unique single-ply, 8-screw hole white pickguard held all electronic components except the recessed jack plate—facilitating easy assembly.
Original Stratocasters were manufactured with five tremolo springs, allowing the bridge set up to “float”. In the floating position, players can move the bridge-mounted tremolo arm up or down to modulate the pitch of the notes being played.

Image 4 of 5 The neckplate depicts Kokopelli – a Native American symbol for the ‘mischievous minstrel’ Image 5 of 5 Johnson prefers five springs on his vibrato, but it still works well with three Anyone familiar with Eric Johnson will know that, apart from his magical touch on the guitar, he strives for the perfect tone.
Eric wants to evoke the smooth, singing voice of the violin in his lead passages and so hates sounds that are thin and spiky, preferring thick tones that fall from his guitar like liquid. A true aficionado of vintage Fender Stratocaster s, Johnson is someone who knows better than most how the world’s favourite electric guitar could be ‘improved’. And with that in mind he got together with Fender and came up with this very retro-looking instrument. Mated to this would be a quarter-sawn tinted maple neck with the smoothest transition between neck and headstock, armed with 21 medium-jumbo frets and with a modern, inch fingerboard radius.
Eric likes his Strats to be fitted with the full five springs but not ‘blocked up’ as with Eric Clapton’s guitar.

Johnson’s most popular track, “Cliffs of Dover,” was not recorded with a Fender Stratocaster. He actually used a Gibson ES with humbuckers, which is pictured in the above photo. In fact, if you’re used to hearing Johnson’s studio albums, there’s a high chance that you’re hearing a Gibson humbucker in most cases.
It’s hard to remember a time when Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson weren’t dating—or pregnant. The couple got together during Eric’s divorce from Keri Johnson, and announced their engagement barely a few months after the divorce was finalized.
Early life[ edit ] Born into a musically inclined family, Johnson and his three sisters studied piano, and his father was a whistling enthusiast. In , Johnson and the group recorded a demo, which saw an extremely limited release; years later, the recording became a prized collector’s item. After graduating from high school, Johnson briefly attended the University of Texas at Austin and traveled with his family to Africa.
He eventually returned to Austin and in , joined a local fusion group called Electromagnets. The group toured and recorded regionally, but did not attract attention from major record labels and as a result, disbanded in However, the strength of Johnson’s playing attracted a small cult following to the group’s early recordings, and decades later, their two albums were given wide release on compact disc.
They played to audiences around Austin. Contract disputes followed, and Seven Worlds was not released until on Ark21 Records. Johnson’s career rebounded in when he was signed to Warner Bros. Christopher Cross and producer David Tickle recommended Johnson to the label. The performance of Cliffs Of Dover from the concert was distributed in a flexi-disc soundpage in the May, issue of Guitar Player magazine.
The article helped promote the release of Tones and brought Johnson critical praise as well as elevating his profile in the guitar and music community. He signed on with indie label Cinema Records, distributed by Capitol Records. During this period, Johnson also drew recognition for the rich, violin-like lead sound he coaxed from his beloved Fender Stratocaster , which he named Virginia.

In the floating position, players can move the bridge-mounted tremolo arm up or down to modulate the pitch of the notes being played.
Hank Marvin , Jeff Beck and Ike Turner have used the Stratocaster’s floating vibrato extensively in their playing. As string gauges have changed, players have experimented with the number of tremolo springs, and as the average gauge has decreased over the years, modern Stratocasters are equipped with three springs as a stock option in order to counteract the reduced string tension.
While the floating bridge has unique advantages, the functionality of the “floating” has been accepted and disputed by many musicians. As the bridge floats, the instrument has a tendency to go out of tune during double-stop string bends. Many Stratocaster players opt to tighten the tremolo springs or even increase the number of springs used so that the bridge is firmly anchored against the guitar body: Some players, such as Eric Clapton and Ronnie Wood , feel that the floating bridge has an excessive propensity to detune guitars and so inhibit the bridge’s movement with a chunk of wood wedged between the bridge block and the inside cutout of the tremolo cavity, and by increasing the tension on the tremolo springs; these procedures lock the bridge in a fixed position.
Some Stratocasters have a fixed bridge in place of the tremolo assembly; these are colloquially called “hard-tails”.

Finished in thin-skin nitrocellulose lacquer, several new colour options are available to this model including the tropical turquoise version we are reviewing in this article.
